![]() More About UsSmall GroupsIn chapter two of the Book of Acts, Luke records that the early church was "day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes." Here we read of the basic pattern of the early church, the larger group gathering at the temple and the smaller groups meeting in homes. This also fits well with the ministry of our Lord, who worked with groups of 3, 12, 70, and 120; the smaller group in balance with the larger group. Also reference Colossians 3:16 and Hebrews 10:24 - this type of "one anotherness" brings into focus the necessity of a small group context. With this Biblical foundation in mind, small groups at South Canyon will promote fellowship, prayer, the encouragement of one another to good works, and serve as our primary pastoral care unit of the church. The PlanSmall groups are formed around several different concepts, including geographical location, time and day of meetings, interest or need, and stage of life. Each group will focus on five interrelated areas: worship, Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and ministry. Each small group determines the time and frequency of their meetings. Some meet for an hour or two every other week. Some of the groups are Sermon Based - taking the outline provided by Pastor Brent and using it to guide their discussion. Other groups select different topics or studies. Our Winter Session begins on January 24th and runs through March 28th. Our hope and prayer is that every able and regular attendee of South Canyon will become an active participant in a small group. Leadership TrainingIf you are interested in starting a small group, please contact the church office about the next small group leader training session. The session lasts about two hours and will give you the Biblical basis for small groups, what it means to be a small group leader, the goals for our small group ministry at South Canyon, and small group leader materials. Being InvolvedPlease call the church office for information on groups that are currently open.
