What to Expect

Visiting a new church can be intimidating:

What should I wear? Where do I park? Where do my kids go?

We understand the many thoughts that can come from visiting a new church, so we want you to feel completely comfortable when you visit. Below are some frequently asked questions. If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
When is the Worship Gathering?
Fall Schedule:  During the fall, our Life Classes are from 9AM-10AM. Sunday morning Worship is from 10:30AM until about 11:45AM. We serve donuts and coffee starting at 10AM in the Family Life Center and our Missions Cafe hours for the fall will be posted soon!
Summer Schedule:
During the summer, we take a break from our 9AM Life Classes. Sunday morning Worship is from 10AM until about 11:15AM. We serve donuts and coffee starting at 9:30AM in the Family Life Center (just down the west hallway from the lobby) and our Missions Cafe is open from 8:30AM-10AM and again after service until 12PM.

What should I wear? You will see a wide range of dress in our gatherings. From jeans and t-shirts to suits and ties. The most common attire would be jeans and a polo or button up shirt. We want you to feel comfortable. After all, we are thrilled that you’re joining us and want you to be more focused on the worship gathering than what you’re wearing.   How do I get to South Canyon Baptist Church? South Canyon Baptist Church is located at 3333 W Chicago Rd, Rapid City, SD (google map). We are basically just off the corner of W Chicago Rd and Sturgis Rd on the top of the hill next to the firestation.   Where should I park? There is parking on all sides of the building. The primary parking area on the north side of the building is the best place to park. It’s the most visible one in front of the church on the W Chicago Rd side. There are two front doors right there on the north side of building which enter into our lobby. Click here for a picture.

Where do my children go?
Our nursery is available at both the Life Class hour (9:00-10:00AM; during the fall) and the Worship hour. Our Children’s Check-In Center is located to your left as you enter in the front door and always has a set of friendly volunteers that would be more than happy to answer questions and escort your children to the Nursery/Children’s area.

The nursery is for children birth up through age two. It is located on the northeast corner of the building or to your left around the corner as you enter the front doors.Click here to read more about our nursery.

During the Worship gathering, children ages two through kindergarten will join their parents for the first 15-20 minutes before being invited to our Children’s Church activities. Children’s Church is located on the east side of the building or to the left side of the lobby. Parents, please personally bring your children to the Check-in Center. Our Children’s Ministry staff will be there to assist you with the check-in process and make your child feel at home. Click here to read more about Children’s Church.
Children that are first grade and up stay in the main worship gathering with the rest of the church. Children’s bulletins are available in the lobby as you enter. 9:00AM kids Life Classes and Youth Group (Sunday PM during the school year; Wednesday PM during the Summer) are the times specifically designed for these older children and youth. You can find more information about these by clicking the “Children” tab on the side of the page.

Am I expected to put money in the offering?
The offering is for those who are members and regular attenders. We don’t expect guests to put money in the offering, and you are welcome to just let it pass you by.

What is a Worship Gathering like?
On most weeks the gathering will begin with our worship band leading in three or four worship songs. We sing a combination of newer worship songs and older worship songs. Then one of the Pastors will read scripture, pray and the younger children are dismissed after this time of music to Children’s Church as one of our pastors (usually Pastor Brent) preaches a practical message from the Bible for about 30-40 minutes. We take an offering following the message. We dismiss with a closing song and benediction.
